Publisher
This site is published privately by Alexander Swann. It gathers the research he carries out into his family’s history and has no commercial purpose.
For any question, report or removal request, write to the publisher at contact@swann-sms.fr.
Hosting
The site is hosted by OVH SAS, 2 rue Kellermann, 59100 Roubaix, France (ovhcloud.com), on a server run by the publisher.
Texts, images and the swan
The texts, family photographs, drawings and the whole presentation of this site belong to Alexander Swann unless otherwise stated. The crowned swan and the motto Sit nomen decus reproduce the family signet ring.
Any reproduction or reuse beyond short quotation with its source requires the publisher’s prior written consent. Archive documents and historians’ work are cited with their references in the “Sources” notes of the chapters.
Established facts and family tradition
This site tells a family story. Facts established by records, archives or published work are kept apart from family tradition and accounts handed down, which are marked as such. Errors or additions can be reported to the publisher, who corrects the site as his research progresses.
Living people
Living people appear by first name only, without dates or details, unless they have agreed otherwise. Anyone mentioned may ask for what concerns them to be changed or removed.
Comments
Anyone may comment on a chapter or a journal post under a freely chosen name, without creating an account. Comments are the responsibility of their authors. The publisher may moderate, hide or delete them, in particular if they are abusive, off-topic, promotional or reveal personal information about others.
Personal data
When you post a comment, the site keeps the name you chose, your text, the date and an encrypted fingerprint of your IP address, used only to limit abuse. This data is neither sold nor passed on to third parties.
The site sets no cookies for visitors and uses no audience measurement or advertising tools. A single technical cookie exists: it keeps the publisher signed in while he administers the site, and it expires after one day.
Without cookies, the site also keeps two display preferences in your browser: the light or dark mode you chose, and the fact that you closed the welcome notice. They never leave your device and are not sent to the site.
Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you may ask to access, correct or erase the data concerning you by writing to the publisher.
